Embracing Earth with Compassion
by Sr. Mary Dean Pfahler, SND
Compassion is essential for human survival and the healing of Earth. As the Season of Creation comes to a close, come celebrate how the seeds of compassion planted across the spectrum of faith traditions and found in insights from theology, spirituality, science, sociology, and psychology can offer hope for the future of our planet.
This Saturday morning retreat is inspired by Laudato Si, the 2015 encyclical letter of Pope Francis, and by well-known author Joyce Rupp’s book Boundless Compassion: Creating a Way of Life. Through presentations, small group discussion, media resources, and communal prayer, Sister Mary Dean invites reflection on compassion for our common home and for the beings most affected by environmental degradation. Participants are called to open their hearts, expanding the circle of compassion to include all of creation.
Sister of Notre Dame Mary Dean Pfahler delights in helping seekers savor the experience of Gracious Mystery in their lives. As a certified Boundless Compassion facilitator and Laudato Si animator, she finds joy in accompanying individuals and groups in spiritual direction, the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius, and Boundless Compassion retreats.
